Here's What Happens at Your OB Appointment
Over the course of your pregnancy, you might start to feel like you live at our office... and that’s a good thing. Studies show that mothers who visit their doctors regularly during pregnancy deliver much healthier babies on average. Scheduled doctor visits will of course vary depending on your particular pregnancy, but these general guidelines should give you an idea of what to expect:
4 to 20 weeks
About one visit per month (every four weeks)
20 to 30 weeks
One to two visits per month (every two to three weeks)
35 weeks to delivery
One visit per week. At these visits you will likely be ask to undress from the waist down. We will be checking your cervix and pelvis to evaluate you for delivery.
First Visit: (6-8 weeks)
This is where we gather you basic health information that may impact your pregnancy. From this information we will determine any potential issues/risks in your pregnancy. We discuss your health and what to expect in your pregnancy. We will talk about our practice and how we operate. We will answer any questions you have about your pregnancy. In general, you will not have a physical exam at this visit.
Second Appointment (8-12 weeks)
We will perform your physical exam at this visit and review your labs. You may have an ultrasound at this visit if indicated in your pregnancy.
Routine Visits:
At these visits we will get your vital signs, a urine sample, measure your belly, and listen to your baby. We will discuss your progress and any potential issues you are experiencing.
16-18 Week Visit: You will have a thorough ultrasound performed to check your baby's anatomy. At this visit you may find out the sex of your baby.
24-28 Week Visit: We will test you for Gestational Diabetes (click here for more information)
35-37 Week Visit: We will perform a swab test for Group B Strep
